A little history about Lexibags Reclaimed Vintage Purses - It all started when I could not bear to see beautiful vintage handbags being tossed out because they were old, broken, had missing parts, etc. I decided to pursue reclaiming these unloved purses. I start with the original purse and begin by adding a new liner if it needs one. I design a new beaded original handle for each bag. I add new and vintage beads, brooches, crystals, charms, shells to breathe life back into each vintage bag and give it an upbeat trendy yet one of a kind look while staying true to its original purpose as well as giving back to the planet and recycling.
With the New year fast approaching I want to have a goal in place as soon as the clock stikes midnight. It is my desire to take a fresh new approach and invite fellow eco-chic handbag artists to my site and place their link on my page and introduce them and their wonderful product. I will have a variety of monthly articles about designing handbags, where to find supplies, creative inspirational stories from handbag artists all while helping to save the planet. Individual efforts make all the difference in the world.. It takes a community collectively to save this awesome planet of ours. I look forward to 2012 and what the New year will bring. Happy New Year from Lexibags!
When I think about recycling, my initial thought is separating bottles and cans. Then I began to consider other ways that I could recycle in my everyday life. At that time I had already started my handbag business and was making and selling new handbags. I bought new fabric, new embellishments, etc.
I began to evaluate my business...where would I like it go, what purpose would it serve. I decided to go green and recycle materials and create one of a kind handbags. I knew this was just one of the many ways that I could help save the planet and so began my new venture of recycling...
For the upcoming 2012 year Lexibags will feature monthly eco friendly handbag artisans from around the world. To bring in the 2012 New Year I am very excited to introduce and show off to you a handbag designer from Helsinki, Finland, Dandy Florence.
From the moment I first saw Dandy's vintage recycled handbags I fell in love. I thought what an ingenious recycling idea to incorporate a vintage men's suit, shirt ,tie and seatbelts into a handbag. Dandy's materials are hand selected by him from distinct vintage shops around Europe. He wraps his findings up into a very hip and trendy one of a kind handbag that is elegant yet funky and very eco friendly!
